Trash Chute Door Fit Check

Two measurements are all it takes to order the right chute door. The hard part is knowing which surface to measure, and that is where most replacement orders go wrong.

How to measure your opening

Measure the wall opening, not the door panel. The panel and its trim overlap the opening on all four sides, so measuring the door itself gives you a size that is too large. For example, a 21″ x 18″ door has a trim outline of 25″ x 21 7/8″ – if you measured the trim you would ask us for a door that does not exist. This is the single most common reason a replacement door arrives and does not fit, and with most sizes running about seven weeks, a wrong number costs real time.

  • Open the door and measure the width of the bare opening in the wall, left to right.
  • Measure the height of the same opening, top to bottom.
  • Round to the nearest quarter inch, and note whether the hinge is along the bottom edge or down one side.
